The Blue Hill Coach Trail is now officially open to the public, offering a new non-motorized route that connects Fall River Village to Blue Hill Road. The 1.6-kilometre trail winds through a forested area rich in Acadian old-growth species such as Hemlock, Yellow Birch, Red Spruce, American Beech, and Sugar Maple.

Led by the SWEPS Trails Committee, the project represents the first completed segment of the greater Riverlake Greenway—a vision to link communities from Dartmouth to Enfield. According to SWEPS Trails Chairman Bob Guscott, future trail segments are already in planning, including potential routes from Holland Road to Enfield.

The Blue Hill Coach Trail has been a SWEPS priority for nearly a decade. Funding and support came from Halifax Regional Municipality, the LWF Ratepayers Association, Nova Scotia Department of Energy, and representatives including MLA Bill Horne, former Councillor Barry Dalrymple, and Councillor Steve Streatch.
The trail’s opening marks a major milestone for local connectivity and nature access in the Shubenacadie Watershed region.
